Is female motor
insurance different?
Well, in as much as it is
possible to get specialist car insurance policies tailored to the needs
of women drivers, then arguably, yes, female motor insurance is
different. There are, of course, several brands aimed purely at women
that offer policy features that, potentially at least, will be
attractive to women.
Their tailored policy enhancements can include guaranteed call out
speeds which might be expected to improve a women's safety if broken
down in a remote location. Other features include enhanced cover for
loss of a handbag stolen from the car interior.
Of course, if you add policy features, this can have an impact on the
premium. That said, women are lower risk than men for an accident and
women-only policies should be able to pass on these savings to the
customer by way of a lower premium.
One would expect, then, that the uptake of tailored female motor
insurance by women drivers would be substantial both on the basis of
price and cover.
And, to some extent, this is true at a national level. And yet, our
experience on our UK car insurance websites has been somewhat
different. We have worked with all the leading female motor insurance
providers since we began brokering car insurance online some years ago
but, one by one, we have had to drop them all as they were not selling
from our sites when presented alongside price comparison services and
other direct car insurance providers.
Thus, while in theory women may be interested in women-only car
insurance, in practice they were finding better deals elsewhere when
provided with alternatve choices.
It would appear that the attraction of some of the policy features
offered by the female motor insurance specialists was not sufficient to
take presidence over other, generally financial, determinants of policy
choice.
What was going on in practice was not at all surprising. People like
using price comparison sites to save money and tailored female motor
insurance policies simply cannot compete with the popularity of
one-form quote systems in terms of volumes of sales, therefore, they
fall by the wayside on sites such as ours.
Whther this is ultimately a good or bad thing for consumers can be
debated, but it is because of this market reality that we no longer
recommend female motor insurance cover specialists, accepting that
people like to buy cheap when they renew their cover. To find car
insurance online, either by price comparison or direct, this
site
offers all the services you need.
